I Banged so hard I broke my 뱅봉.
I have the old edition Big Bang light stick (뱅봉/bang bong) which has been off the market for about a year and a half. I like it because hardly anyone has it anymore so it shows I am a long-time fan and that I take my VIP status very seriously. (Also, I don’t see the point in buying a new glow-y stick to wave around a few times a year at concerts for like 15,000 won.) However, I forgot that the top of mine (the part with the B) is loose, though, and when the lights went out I started shaking it and the top flew off and sailed through the air. Luckily I was able to find it after the show under some man’s seat. Next time I will Scotch tape it on.
Also wore the glowing VIP crown headband throughout the show, purchased from a very friendly old lady selling bootleg stuff in the Olympic Park subway station. Only felt like an idiot a tiny bit.

My boys in a subway station ad! Actually I’m flying to Osaka next month on Jeju Air… I don’t even need to say how excited I would be if I flew there in a Big Bang airplane!

Extraordinary 20s!

Immediately after work, I came to my house and tapped on the friendly office man’s door, and told him my room number and asked if there was a delivery for me. Guess what? There was! The Big Bang ‘Extraordinary 20s’ photo book. It was actually waiting for me yesterday, but I didn’t have time to claim it. I skipped back to my room and stared at the box. Staring contest! I lost. It was time for me to cut this sucker open.

I forcefully scissored the box. I could already smell the delicious book smell. It smells like an I Spy book. The best kind of book smell in the world. This is the box the book comes in. Yes, the book is so special it requires two encasements!

The cover of the book itself. Very high quality. The edges of the pages are shiny gold. There’s a little fake photo negative wedged into the front cover. The seemingly random phrases at bottom are the names of the different themed chapters.

The book comes with a small poster and this photo frame with interchangeable photo cards. The Daesung one is just plain awful and doesn’t even look like him. The other ones are okay. I really like this theme- it’s very ‘street’ and ‘legit’ and not ‘manufactured.’ Even though, obviously, it is.

The book has A LOT of these random quotations, all in English. In fact, there is nothing Korean in the book at all. Only English. YG must have gotten a way better copy editor because the English is so much better than any of the previous stuff they’ve put out. BigBig Bang world domination, go!

TOP is moody and never smiles in any of the pictures. Protecting his 2cool4school image well.

Lots of b&w shots, and many of them are very casual and seem natural. I like it.

Aw, who HASN’T fallen for Daesung’s smile? He smiles like a baby.

At this point, things started to get a little weird.

Yep.

Yep squared.

TAEYANG IS SHRINKING. Seriously, last time I saw him (in person; don’t believe how tall he looks in photos because I think they make him stand on boxes) I would have put him at 5’4” or 5’5” (being generous with the later,) but if GD claims to be 5’8” but is really closer to 5”6” and Taeyang is THIS short, I must conclude that Taeyang is a garden gnome.

So, was this $35 book of well-groomed and manicured Korean men who are very talented in singing and dancing worth my money? Yeah, I think so. I like the style of all the pictures, the design and packaging are great, the random English interview quotations which are never attributed to any individual member are kind of weird, but who even reads these days anyway?

video

WOW. There are so many things I want to say about this video. Where to start?

This song is great. I haven’t heard a Kpop song this good in a long time.

I love the gothic aesthetic in this video. They just seem 100x more attractive to me.

The only fail is Taeyang’s ‘Mickey Mouse hair’ but I still kind of dig it.

I think this release (song/video/concept) is the whole package. I love it.

Maybe I’ve already posted this picture. Nothing wrong with seeing Big Bang twice, though!

G-Dragon, “When I look at T.O.P’s body, I think it looks erotic”
On the ‘YG Family Special‘ episode of ‘Strong Heart,’ G-Dragon revealed, “When I look at T.O.P’s body, I think it looks erotic.”
He explained, “T.O.P usually doesn’t reveal his body. It’s to the point where he uses his own dressing room. That’s why when T.O.P does reveal his body, it surprises me.” He confessed, “When we were promoting overseas, T.O.P revealed his body, and when I saw it, even though we’re both guys, I thought it looked erotic.”G-Dragon continued on the topic of T.O.P’s body, saying, “After T.O.P works out, he comes back and asks us to feel his body. Even Taeyang and Daesung, who’ve worked out a lot, don’t ask us to do that,” which embarrassed T.O.P and had the audience and guests laughing.Source: NaverTranslated by: AKP

K-Collection Seoul Fashion Show and Concert

I’m sorry if anyone was looking forward to hearing a firsthand account of this event because it took me forever to write about it. However, if you still care, do read on!

My lovely friend Michelle told me about this event. It was advertised on the Visit Korea website and Facebook, and since Big Bang was advertised as the main guest, I immediately started hyperventilating at the chance to see them two weekends in a row (and for free!) and immediately entered the contest. However, because I was not one of the first 300 foreigners to email the event coordinators because I’d been in class until an hour after the concert was announced, they initially told me I had responded too late and would not receive tickets, and I was very disappointed. However, a few hours later, they emailed me (and everyone I know) back and told us that we could go, after all, because they had opened more seats for foreigners because of the high demand. Yay!

We had to collect our tickets at the Olympic Park stadium (same place Big Show was held, and every other huge concert in Korea) before 1PM on Sunday and the show ended at 8PM. Of course, Big Bang did not appear until the end. So we spent 8 hours hanging out at the stadium. (I could have gone home and come back later because I do not live very far from the stadium, but I was interested in seeing the other singers, too.) Plus we had seats and it was warm inside and there was a lot of food so it was a very quick and comfortable wait.

The concert started at 3 and opened with Tiger JK doing a song while a bunch of models walked around the runway. I thought he was amazing and I think he was actually rapping, and the way he performed while the models walked around him reminded me of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. After that, two designers would showcase, one group/singer would perform, and two designers would show again, etc. As far as the fashion went, a lot of it was very interesting, albeit kind of boring, and, as I later learned, most of the designers were not even Korean. Most were European. I’m not sure why they did not showcase the products of Korean designers, unless perhaps Korean designers were in charge of creating these foreign companies’ clothes in Korea. I liked seeing all the male models.^^ Plus, several celebrities walked in the show; most famously, one of the guys from 2AM (Chan Seong? Chang Seon?)

Some photos of not great quality:

Big Bang

Big Bang again (there are like 50 pictures on my camera and they are all almost identical to this so no need to share any more!)

Music-wise, here is what I thought. IU: adorable and angelic but obviously lip-synching. Crazy male fans shouting chants throughout all her songs. T-Ara- the worst lip-synchers of all. Moving their mouths when there were no words, or moving their mouths out of time to the music. Their dancing did not look so hot, either. Maybe they were having an off day. They are Korean idols, after all, so they probably do not get to sleep or eat very often. Secret- I like their songs but they were kind of boring to watch. Miss A- good dancers (and they did their leg dance!) but also not very exciting. Infinite- boring songs and boring dances. They all looked really, really young. MBLAQ- a more exciting performance. I have always wanted to like them but I just can’t get into their music. They danced really well. However there was some problem… it looked like one of them was bleeding on his face. Later on, one of them ran offstage (I think) and a dancer dressed like a ninja replaced him for the rest of the set. That’s what it looked like to us from afar, anyway. Girls Generation- only 7 performed. This was my first time seeing them and they were not particularly amazing. Mighty Mouth- They were a surprise guest and I thought they were awesome! I like their music a lot and they really got everyone excited.

Finally, the highlight of the show came on- Big Bang! They sang Blue, Bad Boy, and Fantastic Baby, and really brought down the house. They were really into it, singing and dancing perfectly on point, and driving everyone in the audience crazy. Plus, there was a ton of confetti swirling around them and it looked really awesome and epic. At some point they all went around and introduced themselves, and we all cheered for them individually. Daesung got the loudest cheers.^^ Unfortunately, their performance was over almost as soon as it had begun.

I am not sure if this information has been released yet, but I am 100% sure that a televised version of this event will be held on Korean TV. Probably MNet. There were two hosts talking throughout the show on a podium to the side, and there were a ton of cameras filming everything; the stage and the people. A camera guy walked right up to my face and stuck his camera in front of it for a good 20 seconds (which felt like 20 years, while I tried to awkwardly pretend I didn’t see it) so I will have to watch it on TV to see if I made the final cut! Haha.

This is about all I can think to say about the concert, but if you have any more questions or want to know more details, feel free to message!
