Co-teaching is tricky.

I’ve been complaining since I started my job that one of my co-workers never helps me out in the classroom. In fact, once I asked her what I could do to make the students pay attention to me more, and she shrugged and said “I don’t know. They don’t listen to me.” Well, today she just came up to me on her own volition to talk about our lesson for tomorrow which was good initiative on her part, and she even told me she had a Powerpoint game . And, honestly, that’s fine, because I’m used to preparing all my own materials and sincerely subscribe to the old saying that if you want something done right, you must do it yourself. The game she sent me, however, is just about the worst waygook.org Powerpoint game I’ve ever seen. The questions are terrible. Most of them are in Korean. The design is hideous. It’s based on a movie I don’t think the kids have ever seen or care about. I have personally never seen the movie and could not care less about it. Ugh- I’m in a pickle here! If I use this game in my class, it’s sure to be a disaster; if I don’t use it, she’ll probably never offer to help me ever again.  I don’t want to offend her. Maybe I can just slightly change some of the questions but that isn’t going to help the fact that the entire game is garbage. T_T Also since she is the only English teacher in the school who doesn’t give out stamps and rewards to the students for answering questions and winning games, they have no reason to want to participate, and most of them will not pay attention for more than ten seconds. Ah, what to do? I guess I’ll have to buy some candy or stickers and just suck it up and play this awful game for five classes and hopefully it will be over before I know it.

I also have an open class on Wednesday, the first one I’ve ever had because it was not necessary at my old school. Parents will be attending and scrutinizing. I will be required to wear a blouse but I am going to have mad armpit sweat stains. I should bring an extra shirt, just in case. It’s not even that important because probably none of them will be able to understand anything I say besides “Hello” and it’s not like I am going to get fired if the class isn’t spectacular. I just want to give a good impression.

Also I just looked at that Powerpoint again and it’s so bad I wanted to cringe. There is no way I can teach using that. I’m going to tell her it’s too complicated and just make my own. Having decent class materials is more important than worrying if I hurt her feelings. :/
