Anonymous asked: I don't mean to make this question too awkward...but is dating life in Korea (as far as intimacy) a lot like what you would see in dramas, where kissing is a major deal, or is it more like dating in the United States, where it really isn't (and in fact even more intimate things really aren't...:p)?
Anonymous asked: Hi! I was wondering how the gyms are in South Korea (weird I know haha) But how are they? Are the decent, good? Are they usually crowed or not? Etc Thanks :P

New Year’s Eve is something I have never really cared about and I have never done anything special to celebrate. Last year I rang in the New Year waiting in a disgustingly long line to get into the ‘hot nightlife area of Hong Kong’ which ended up being exactly like Itaewon (shudder.) This year, with all of my fun-time friends away and one friend too sick to go out and another...

Romeo Says (via Kakao) Part 2
“I want to smell at your hair.”
[5 minutes later]
“But I’m not sexual pervert!”
Also one of his friends just added me on Facebook. I guess he really is gushing about me. Cute.^^

Romeo Says (via Kakao):
“While I met friends today, I was unaware of the passage of time. Because of you.”
“How can I sleep if you aren’t sleeping? I will sleep after my angel sleep.”
“I’m happy person the reason you are my girl.”

Anonymous asked: This one is kinda related to the previous height question. Did you go out with someone who is (noticeably) shorter? If so, could you tell us how you feel about it/what's your view on it?
I think I am just going to end up wasting this wonderful day off because I can’t decide what to do. First I have to go to the bank, and that puts me in the Gwanghwamun area, but I have no idea where to go from there. I can’t even decide if I should eat lunch here or eat out and I have been thinking about it for about 20 minutes. Should I check out a really cool coffee shop I saw in a...

It's officially over... :(
I finally told my ex-boyfriend that we were definitely, totally finished and that I had found someone else. He was very calm and just said “It’s OK. It’s my fault.” He didn’t even try to fight for us which really isn’t like him at all. He just sounded so defeated and depressed the past few times I talked to him, even before we broke up. I really think the Korean...
Awesome! Awhile ago I got really excited when I was watching an episode of 30 Rock and realized that I have the same necklace as Jane Krakowski. (It was from Express.) Now, I just noticed that I have the same shirt Amy Poehler wears in the 2x22 episode of Parks and Recreation. (J. Crew…outlet.)
I am proud. I might also dress like a 40-year-old woman.

I’ve been hitting up a chat app on my phone the last few days. None of the guys on there in my vicinity particularly catch my fancy, unfortunately, but it’s good practice for my Korean, and some absolute characters try to talk. Although I obviously haven’t uploaded a photo.
One thing, however,…
Similarly, it took me a very long couple of minutes to understand what my...
Anonymous asked: Just curious: what's your apartment in Korea like? Is it an office-tel or an actual apartment? Did your school/company get it for you?
Anonymous asked: Do Korean guys prefer girls with black, brown or blonde hair? I have very light blonde hair and someone told me they generally dont like girls with blonde hair...

Cute makeup stuff I bought for people today
I’ve been spending a lot of time and money recently on presents to bring back to my family and friends in the U.S. when I come home in just over three weeks (is it really that soon!?!) I went to the Lotte Plaza at Cheongnyangni today where there is an entire floor of makeup stores and bought a ton of stuff. Now all that’s left to buy are some Kpop socks and stuff from Insadong for the...

Reasons why my new boyfriend is too good to be...
He carries all my bags and even my purse in public (the purse thing is actually kind of annoying because I have to ask him every time I need to use something from it…)
He always washes the dishes after we eat. Today I walked out of my bathroom and saw him sneakily cleaning my floor with a dustpan.
He insists on paying for everything even though he’s just a student and I have a job...

The Britney Spears episode of Glee is on TV now and I noticed that they purposefully didn’t subtitle in Korean two separate comments about one of the characters being gay. (Unless I somehow missed it, but there was nothing on the screen at all.)
Interesting.
Edit: the preview for the next episode did have two guys kissing. Hmmm.
The new guy asked me to be his girlfriend and I said yes, even though I never officially ended things with my previous boyfriend. I feel like this is going to cause some drama in the future which I am not prepared to handle… Awesome. But how could I resist? He came to my house Christmas Eve (this was only the second time we had met) with a 50,000 won bottle of wine, a Paris Baguette cake...

Best Christmas in Korea so far^^
And not only because I spent all day yesterday and today with the new guy, who is acting so perfect it’s scaring me. (He cannot be real. He must be a robot.)
But also because I got to open my Christmas package today and talk to my family on Skype, and I got a load of cards and American tights that actually fit my legs and THIS.
I’m going to spend the rest of the night lazing...

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I didn’t do anything special at all for Christmas last year (except going to the GD&TOP concert at Heaven on Christmas Eve.) On Christmas day, I just ate Chinese food with two of my friends and then watched Love Actually while one of them fell asleep on his bed. It is really easy to not make a big deal out of holidays when you’re living abroad, without an oven to bake Christmas...
Paula in Seoul: Korean Girls →
paulainseoul:
Today I sat at Paris Baguette with some friends when we noticed two Korean girls sitting at the table behind us.
They were young…maybe 20s or so? They were laughing and doing their thing when one busted out her makeup bag and started applying her makeup. This was not in the bathroom nor was she…
One time I saw a Korean girl trimming her boyfriend’s eyebrow hairs. At...
Anonymous asked: Where I live it is generally warm. So going to Korea during winter (mid Jan) is going to be a bit of a shock. Do you have any suggestions of clothing to wear? I asked my Korean friends but they told me that they dress pretty lightly. I feel like I'm going to turn up looking like a big ball of Eskimo fur while they dress fashionably...

Arpakasso~*~사랑해요
YES YES YES. I just found adorable funny compilation of Arpakasso pictures and they reminded me that this cute fluffy alpaca character exists.
They are so cute and soft and they are pastel colored like macarons! And they have blushing alpaca cheeks!
Arpakasso was all over Tokyo when I went last year. I kept asking my friend to try to win me on in the many arcades he dragged me into, but he...
Anonymous asked: are people going to call me a fat ass if im a size 10 in the us? T_T
Anonymous asked: I think the other anon was asking your size like dress size to kind of get a gauge of how Korean clothes fit/what's easy to find, what's not, etc.
KoreanKaramel: 5th Grade Letters to Valencia... →

I got so choked up reading all of the letters. It’s just great to know that however small, I’m making (and have made) a difference to these students’ lives (or really more accurately, to their English language abilities).
Nonetheless, I did get a couple letters that weren’t negative per se, but a little disappointing. I mean, I really shouldn’t be all that surprised given that...

I would really like to write more about Korean fashion. Although I am far from an expert in that field, I spend way more time (and money) than I ought to shopping, whether it be in a department store or a flea market.
Basically I love Korean fashion because it is really driven by cuteness. I love bows and sparkly things and cute animal prints, and Korea offers all that up in abundance. Shiny...
